A few excerpts from the old poetry/my writing journal. The picture inserts are not from the journal but I thought my post needed a little something. So, I will add that to the journal throwbacks.
In Time Of The Breaking Of Nations
Only a man harrowing clock
In a slow silent walk
With an old horse that stumbles and nods
Half asleep as they stalk.
Only thin smoke without a flame
From the heaps of couch grass
Yet this will go onward the same
Though dynasties will pass.
Yonder a maid and her wright
Come whispering by
War’s animals will fade into night
‘Ere their story die.
~Thomas Hardy
Stars, I Have Seen Them Fall
Stars, I have seen them fall
But when they drop and die
No star is lost at all
From all the star-sown sky.
The toil of all that be
Helps not the primal fault;
It rains into the sea,
And yet, the sea is salt.
~A.E. Housman
