Leaves of Grass
Skirting the river road, (my forenoon walk, my rest) skyward in air a sudden muffled sound, the dalliance of the eagles. The rushing, amorous contact high in space. The clinching, interlocking claws. A living, fierce, gyrating wheel. Four beating wings, two beaks, a swirling mass, tight grappling, in tumbling turning clustering loops straight downward faling. Till o’er the river pois’d, the twain yet one, a moment’s lull. A motionless still balance in the air, then parting, talons loosing. Upward again on slow-firm pinions slanting, their separate diverse flight. She hers, he his, pursuing.
~Walt Whitman

1998-12-31 my attempt at poetry:
I want to show you my strength, warmth, heart and emotion.
I want to give you comfort while you lie in my lap and I tussle your hair.
I want to tell you who I am and why my past tears could fill an ocean.
I want to show you that even after hurt I allow myself to care.
You allow me to be who I am, not who I perceive myself to be.
You have eyes filled with kindness and a gentleness in touch.
You have opened me up, looked behind my walls, my soul soars free.
You come into my life when I know my heart is capable of much.
We set forth on our journey, no destination in mind.
We share secrets and whisper to each other in silliness.
We show each other happiness and all that is kind.
We replace our past hesitance with a future willingness.
I want to show you the realness that is me.
You show me you want to know that person too.
We begin on something that feels it should always be
Something beautiful, something wonderful, a little you, a little me.
